Messages API adds server-side conversation threads in beta

Anthropic has added beta message threads to the Messages API, letting follow-up requests send only new messages.

Anthropic keeps the conversation on its servers, which can lower time to first token.

Threads expire five minutes after the last request and are deleted within an hour of last use.

They’re available on the Claude API, AWS, Google Cloud (Anthropic managed) and Microsoft Foundry.
